The great Gen X lullabies were the themes to whatever ran in the 10pm spot in the 70s or 80s - as in, when you heard the theme song to that 10pm series, you knew it was time for bed - like M*A*S*H or Hill Street or LA Law … or this legal drama that wound up largely forgotten, despite a respectable two-season run on one of the Big 3.

The VHS of this one always jumped out at me from the video store shelf, but since it was rated R, I was never allowed to rent it. When I finally caught up with it, I think in college, it wasn’t nearly as special as the box art had suggested, but that’s a tale as old as time.

Who else remembers, decades before the 2019 big screen reboot, when Benoit Blanc was a Sunday night staple on one of the big three?

(Admittedly, that was a little before my time, but in the 80s, I’d watch it in syndication at my grandma’s, usually while one or both of us dozed off on the couch.)

I managed to unearth the show open, I think from the first season, before they’d found the tone and the regular series cast thinned out or spun off into their own shows.
